UX/UI Designer for Travel Fintech – Reimagining Complex Data

About the Project PaperPlane (getpaperplane.in) is a live forex aggregator for Indian travelers. We calculate the absolute cheapest way to carry money abroad by comparing three high-level strategies: Physical Cash, a "Bridge Currency" (e.g., buying USD in India to exchange in Thailand), and Forex Credit/Debit Cards. The Core Challenge: Our current MVP works perfectly under the hood, but the UI feels highly "engineered" and mechanical. It looks like a developer’s dashboard. We need to completely reimagine 4 core screens. The overarching UX goal is to elicit trust. We need to convey—without contributing to cognitive load—that we have done the heavy lifting. The user needs to feel that we have scoured the internet, factored in hidden exchange margins, delivery fees, and foreign ATM costs, and are now presenting them with the ultimate truth. I am not looking for someone to just make my current layout "prettier." I do not know what the final UX should be. I am hiring you to bring industry best practices, modern fintech patterns, and your own UX intuition to solve these data-presentation problems. The Scope & Milestones: This project is broken down into 4 distinct milestones. Note: We will require 3-4 completely different layout directions for each milestone to establish the overarching design language. Milestone 1: The Master Results Page The Problem: The user lands here and sees the 3 main strategies (Direct Cash, Bridge Currency, Cards). What you need to solve: How do we clearly designate the "Winner"? How do we implicitly show that all complex costs have been factored into this final number? How do we handle the "Live/Freshness" indicator (rates updated X minutes ago) so it feels connected to the data? How does this scale between Desktop and Mobile? Milestone 2: The "Direct Cash" Details Page The Problem: The user wants to drill down into the winning cash strategy. What you need to solve: How do we cleanly compare multiple local vendors? How do we show their respective exchange rates, final costs, and service fees without making it look like a messy spreadsheet? How do we point out what is included and what is excluded in the cash yield that we have shown? Milestone 3: The "Bridge Currency" Details Page The Problem: This is a complex, 2-step geographic transaction. (Step 1: Buy USD in India. Step 2: Sell USD in the destination country). What you need to solve: How do you visually explain this chronological and geographical flow on a single screen without the user having to scroll through paragraphs of text or getting confused? Milestone 4: The "Credit/Debit Cards" Details Page The Problem: The user opts for the digital route. Our backend will return a growing list of cards, each with complex variables (Zero forex markup, varying issuance fees). Furthermore, the backend will generate country-specific warnings (e.g., "Thailand ATMs charge a flat 220 THB fee" or "Merchants charge a 3% swipe fee"). What you need to solve: What is the absolute best way to visually represent debit/credit cards? How do we design a hierarchy for these complex fees and dynamic warnings so the user is informed, but not overwhelmed? Rules of Engagement: Clarity First: I expect you to review our current live site and ask me any clarifying questions about the financial logic before you accept the contract. You must understand the data to design for it. Mutual Protection: This is strictly milestone-based. If either party feels the design direction is not aligning after any given milestone, the project will be cleanly cancelled, and you will be paid in full for the milestones completed to date. To Apply: Please do not send generic e-commerce or agency templates. Send 2-3 examples of dashboards, fintech apps, or comparison tools where you had to simplify heavy, complex data for a consumer. Start your proposal with the phrase "PaperPlane Logic" so I know you read this brief.
