Hi, I’m a Building Services Engineer working in London office fit-out projects (MEP consultancy / Cat A & Cat B fit-outs). I already have a base Excel workbook, but I want it upgraded into a professional pre-construction tracker for MEP projects. The focus is on pre-con only — the on-site tracker will stay as a simple meeting/action log. The existing “Front sheet” in the file should remain the most significant page. This is my main checklist of pre-con items, and I want it developed into the central control page with live dashboard metrics. I should be able to open the file and instantly see project status without clicking around. As part of this upgrade, I also want to reduce and simplify some of the existing sheets so the workbook is easier to use: Dashboard, Front sheet, Employer Requirements (ER) compliance, Precon Tracker, RFI Log, Tech Sub Register, and Costs. Sheets to include (Pre-con): Front Sheet (core page) – Checklist of pre-con deliverables (scope complete, ER reviewed, RFIs logged/resolved, risks updated, long-lead reviewed, cost plan issued) with status ticks/traffic lights. Also show dashboard metrics: % ER compliance Open RFIs Open risks & highest risk score Long-lead items “at risk” Total cost variance Hyperlinks to each detailed sheet. Scope Matrix – systems in/out of scope, notes, action owner, ER reference. ER Compliance Tracker – requirements, compliant Y/N, comments/deviation, action owner, due by, status. RFI / Query Log – auto-numbering, open/answered/closed status. Risk Register – likelihood × impact scoring, owner, mitigation, status. Long Lead Item Tracker – required by, lead time, auto order-by date. Cost Plan – budget, allowance, current cost, variance, % variance, totals. Requirements: Use formulas, dropdowns, and conditional formatting where possible. VBA only where helpful (auto-numbering RFIs, report generation, refreshing dashboard). Must be simple for engineers to maintain and update. Reduce and streamline the Dashboard, Front Sheet, ER compliance sheet, Precon Tracker, RFI log, Tech Sub Register, and Cost Plan so they are easy to read and not over-complicated. This needs to be tailored specifically for MEP pre-construction workflows (before site start).
