imagine you are a new social media manager working for a brand. (You can choose whichever well-known brand that is active on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok...). You are trying to make a name for yourself. Your chosen brand needs to perform a social media audit, specifically the type of content they publish around their products. Some of their content will be good and some not so good. The analysis needs to cover the last 20 posts, and the newest post must be at least 1 day old. To do this, you will need to do some competitive analysis on its competition (define TWO competitors for the brand you have chosen, and do an analysis on each). You will quickly learn that not all content is created equal. Your Job It is important for you to know what content gets the most interaction and why. This will help you go forward to know what type of content to produce. To achieve this you will need to look at the competition’s Instagram, Facebook... (or whichever platforms they are most active on) to see what they are doing. Your chosen brand needs you to make recommendations on the data that you gather and analyze from the competition’s social media platforms. After you have conducted the competitive analysis, you must analyze the current social media platforms for your chosen brand. To analyze the data you will need to use the Excel template provided (you can customize it). General categories have been listed, however you may choose to categorize the content however you like. Just be consistent. (For example, the content categories are about products being pictured with people or without, inside photos versus outside photos, promotion with link or without. Your brand may have other defining moments. For example, if you choose a beauty brand, maybe instructional content is an engagement catalyst. Be thoughtful about how you can group the content types for your individual analyses) After you have gathered the information, your chosen brand will need to know what content has received the most likes, shares, comments, views, and any other information you deem relevant and important. For example, “Does the caption have any effect on how people interact with the post?” “Does action have an effect on interactions?” “Does having people using product increase likes?”, etc. Some things you may want to think about and include in your report: What did you learn from your research? Did you notice any trends? What suggestions going forward do you have for the content marketing manager at <<your chosen brand>>? What should <<your chosen brand>> do as a result? Do some posts perform better in certain areas than other posts? How and why? Does the caption have any effect on how people interact with the post? Any information you may deem important or relevant. You should include screenshots of the gathered data for Facebook and Instagram. The summary of your project should include at least 6 recommendations for the brand you have chosen based on the competitive analysis and the brand audit conducted. 1. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: You should submit your report with your excel spreadsheet. Your report should be in PPT, or Canva (link) or a PDF form as if you were presenting to the CEO of your chosen brand. Include all pertinent information ON THE SLIDE (do not use the notes section).
