Detailed Digital Bed Model Design

For this assignment, you are asked to prepare a parametric digital model of a “bed” of your choice. It is important that the artefact chosen is complex enough to allow a large cross-section of your digital modelling skills to be demonstrated. (Further instructions in relation to this will be given in class during the term). The software used to generate this model must be Autodesk Inventor and the submitted model is to be prepared firstly as a multi-body part. All jointing methods and details must be modelled accurately within the completed model. Hardware such as KD fittings and screws do not need to be modelled, but the drilled holes and other geometry required for their processing should be. (Mattress and bed dressings need not be modelled as part of this assignment). As a minimum, the submitted model should include a range of suitable parameters as well as some introductory iLogic programming. Please also ensure that the artefact is modelled as efficiently as possible (avoid duplicate, redundant or unnecessary features). From this multi-body part model, individual component part files, as well as an assembly, are to be generated. A neatly laid out drawing sheet (or sheets) of the bed that contains all information necessary to describe the geometry of the artefact is also required. (Suggest sheet size is A2 or A1.) Additionally, you are asked to prepare the CAM programming required to manufacture (at least) the headboard of the bed designed above. The CAM software used to generate this program must be Alphacam. The approach and methodologies used to manufacture the component should be considered and presented in the form of a one- or two-page document, setting out how your product meets the requirements as set out and how you plan to machine and manufacture it (comprehensive manufacturing details). As with the CAD element of this assignment, efforts should be made to choose and apply machining to a component that is complex enough to allow a large cross-section of your digital computer aided manufacturing skills to be demonstrated. The level of complexity here will contribute to the marks awarded. Assignment deliverables: • Inventor digital model files of the bed (multi-body part, individual parts and an assembly). • Inventor drawing sheet(s) of the bed. Please also upload this set of drawings in PDF format. Finished drawings should be complete and factory floor ready. • Alphacam file with programming necessary to machine the selected component or components. • Summary document explaining the processes involved in the CAM stage.
