Design Brief – Kangaroo Beer Funnel Overview We want to create a fun, novelty drinking product inspired by the popular Freedom Funnel in the USA, but designed with a distinctly Australian twist. Our product will be a kangaroo-shaped funnel that allows people to drink a beer (or other beverages) through it. The product should be hollow, functional, and injection-moulded for production (with prototypes created using 3D printing). It should be approximately the same size and feel as the Freedom Funnel, with opportunities for branding/customisation via stickers or decals. ⸻ Core Product Features 1. Shape & Theme • Kangaroo body in upright stance. • Hollow design to channel liquid through the mouthpiece. • Similar proportions and functionality to the Freedom Funnel. 2. Material • Durable, food-safe plastic (injection mouldable). • Lightweight yet sturdy enough for repeated use. • Matte or semi-gloss finish. 3. Details & Branding • Minimal surface detailing (stickers/decals will provide facial features, logos, etc.). • Base colour: one solid moulded colour (e.g., tan, grey, or green). • Optional branded packaging for retail. ⸻ Unique Feature – Customisable Hands • Screw-on hands/arms system: • Both kangaroo arms to be detachable and screwed on via a simple thread or snap-lock mechanism. • Allows different accessory attachments. • Customisable accessories: • Boxing gloves • Aussie Rules footy • Boomerang • (Future options: beer can, thumbs up, surfboard, etc.) ⸻ Functionality • Easy to drink through: wide funnel hole in the back of the kangaroo (opening at the back/top leading to mouthpiece). • Stable when set down: flat base feet and/or stabilising tail. • The mouthpiece is the tail – it should be wide enough for liquid flow & long enough to act as a stabiliser while upright. • The tail is not full-length – just long enough to be ergonomic and stabilising. A future bottle-opening plug may be added. • Comfortable to hold while in use. ⸻ Design Considerations • Size: similar to Freedom Funnel (~head-to-tail ~25–30cm). • Ergonomics: easy grip points, not too heavy. • Manufacturing: optimised for injection moulding but adaptable for 3D-printed prototypes. • Food safety: ensure material is BPA-free and compliant with Australian standards. • Cleansable: interior must be smooth, with no deep crevices, allowing easy rinsing/cleaning after use. ⸻ Deliverables • 3D CAD model suitable for 3D printing (prototype). • Iterations for final injection moulding design (manufacture-ready files). • Modular design for screw-on hands. • Rendered concept images for presentation.
