Assignment Overview For your first major assignment, you will write a Writing Autobiography Essay. This is a reflective essay in which you look back on your experiences with writing—both inside and outside of school—and explain how those experiences have shaped: Who you are today as a student and person How you feel about writing now This essay gives me a chance to learn more about your background and also helps you reflect on your growth as a writer. There is no single “right” story to tell—this is your story. Worth: 200 points (20% of course grade) Length: 3–4 full pages (typed, double-spaced, 12pt font, 1-inch margins) Due Date: first draft due 10/5, revised draft due 10/10 Content Guidelines Your essay should include: An introduction that sets the stage and explains what your essay will focus on. Body paragraphs that describe specific experiences you’ve had with writing. These could include: Early school memories (positive or negative) Teachers, classes, or assignments that stood out Writing outside school (journals, letters, social media, song lyrics, etc.) Struggles or successes that shaped your confidence Reflection and analysis explaining how those experiences shaped: Your identity (as a learner, student, or person) Your current feelings about writing (Do you enjoy it? Fear it? Use it daily?) A conclusion that looks forward: What role do you want writing to play in your future?
