Platform: WordPress (PHP-powered) Project Type: Improve, Fix & Elevate (Not a Rebuild) About Penificent Penificent is a UK-based comic company and social enterprise. We use comic books, storytelling, and workshops to tackle real-world issues including knife crime, mental health, and financial literacy , working directly with young people, schools, councils, and community organisations. We are often described as a “UK Marvel with a social mission.” Our website needs to reflect that identity clearly. The Creative Vision This project is about fusing two worlds into one coherent digital experience: 1️⃣ Comic Book Energy (Marvel-Inspired) We sell comics — the site must feel like a comic universe, not a charity website. Inspired by Marvel Comics, we want: Bold, confident layouts with clear visual hierarchy Sections that feel like comic panels, not standard web blocks Strong, readable, action-led typography “Shop” and “Latest Comics” styled like an interactive comic shelf Comic-style call-to-actions that feel purposeful, not gimmicky This is about storytelling, momentum, and identity. 2. Community & Social Impact Energy (Trash Gxng-Inspired) Penificent is community-led and youth-facing. Real people. Real stories. Real impact. Inspired by Trash Gxng, we want: Raw, authentic visuals (no stock photography) Short looping videos (6–10 seconds) showing workshops and engagement A strong sense of movement and culture Community proof front and centre Partnerships shown in a dynamic, gritty layout, not a static logo strip This side of the site should feel alive, current, and culturally aware. The Fusion The final result should feel like: A UK comic company with Marvel-level storytelling, powered by real community impact. Not corporate. Not charity-first. Not American. But: Story-first Youth-first Culture-led Impact-driven A visitor should instantly understand: We sell comics We do serious social impact work We are rooted in real communities This is lived experience turned into narrative power Technical Priorities (Must-Fix) This is a key part of the role. >Header / Menu Bug The main navigation is currently broken Appears as a black box, disappears on scroll, or drops to the bottom Likely a PHP / CSS / z-index conflict Needs a clean, permanent fix >Mobile Optimisation Our audience is primarily young people The site must be fully responsive and stable across mobile devices Design & Experience Enhancements Introduce motion subtly (video loops, animated counters) Create a “Wall of Impact” using images and short videos Use halftone / dot textures and comic borders sparingly but intentionally Display impact clearly (workshops delivered, young people engaged, communities reached) Elevate the site visually without changing the core template Platform & Constraints (Important) Platform: WordPress (PHP-powered) Template: Must remain intact Approach: Improve and enhance, not rebuild Outcome: Easy for our team to manage without ongoing developer reliance Budget & Scope Best suited to a designer who: Is comfortable working within WordPress templates Understands PHP/CSS conflicts Has strong visual taste and restraint Can deliver impact without over-engineering Added Value (Beyond Payment) As a mission-driven organisation, we offer: “Designed by” credit in the website footer Feature in our newsletter and social media A written testimonial for your portfolio The chance to contribute to work tackling knife crime and mental health through storytelling Style References Comic Energy: marvel.com/comics Community Energy: trashgxng.co.uk Current Site: penificent.com Who This Is For This role is ideal for a designer who: Understands culture as well as code Respects existing systems Can elevate a brand without rebuilding it Wants meaningful, visible work alongside commercial projects
