Fix Nextcloud SMB Auth Error

Заказчик: AI | Опубликовано: 15.02.2026

I am running Nextcloud on a Linux server and I’m trying to mount a TrueNAS SMB share as external storage using the standard “Username and Password” method. Each time I add the share, Nextcloud throws the message: “action needs authentication failed – wrong password.” The credentials are definitely correct and the share is reachable from other machines, so the problem lies somewhere in the way Nextcloud is handing off the authentication to the SMB service. I need someone who can: • Pinpoint the exact cause of the error in Nextcloud’s external storage configuration (logs already collected). • Apply the necessary fixes or adjustments—whether they involve Samba/SMB parameters, PHP modules, Nextcloud config.php tweaks, or TrueNAS share settings. • Prove success by mounting the share in the External Storage app and showing it is fully accessible and write-able from within Nextcloud. • Provide a short summary of what was changed so I can replicate or revert in the future. If you’re comfortable digging into Nextcloud’s logs, Samba protocol nuances, and TrueNAS ACLs, I’m ready to give you SSH access and move quickly. please see attached image. i will provide putty access only via .any desk
